VW Beetles of Mexico City

In the last few months,  I have had several work layovers in Mexico City.  I enjoy walking around the many leafy neighbourhoods near our hotel which is basically in the heart of the city.  As usual, I like snapping photos of people, architecture, trees or any visuals that appeal to me.  I have always been a fan of the classic Volkswagen Beetle and there are many in Mexico City. Perfect for a little photo essay.   The "vocho" as they call them,  really is the people's car  and, as in Brazil, they had factories here which, until 2003,  pumped out the same design that had expired in North America back in the 70s.   Even up until just a few years ago,  the taxis of Mexico City were green and white Beetles.  Needless to say there are still thousands of them driving around this  vast megalopolis.

Many of these Beetles are in pristine shape, however I prefer the beat up ones with their patches of of rust and body work that almost resemble the texture of abstract paintings.

I took this photo in 2007, when they still had Beetle taxis

    Great album Andre,
My very first car in 1969 was a cream colored VW Beetle. I loved that car. It was reliable even in minus 30 degree weather.
